Fashion for Moms Summer 2024
extraordinary everyday
Fashion isn’t “boring” per se, it’s becoming more sophisticated. While outfits may look plain, I see an added emphasis on texture and fabric quality. For example while the outfit may be a simple tank top and jeans, the quality of both items is what makes it stand out. Elevating ordinary essentials while allowing them to remain accessible and comfortable is what caused Libby Page of Net-a-Porter to characterize the 2024 S/S season as “extraordinary everyday” style (Who What Wear).
colours of the season
This Spring / Summer season is presenting us with some pretty and practical options for styling. While the neutral caramel tones are still here, we are seeing some bright pops of colour from cherry red, to sunny yellow, to sky blue.
sky blue
I think one very “new” addition to this season (it’s not new, but it’s a refresh from the 90’s) is the sky blue trend (WhoWhatWear). I’ve been seeing this colour all over and its a fun, playful addition to the summer neutrals set. I especially love sky blue baseball caps paired with an ultra-feminine outfit.
neutrals
Subdued tones like chalky whites, sun-bleached sand, and caramel are trending. These neutral hues are anything but boring, adding a sophisticated touch to spring and summer outfits (Elle Canada).
The white lace blouse is the “it” item for the summer.
As a mom I love/hate the colour white. It is versatile and will match anything in my wardrobe, and it instantly looks dressy, but it can be hard to clean. So far, having some Shout spray or throwing in some OxyClean for the occasional brightening has been extremely helpful for me. Also, if you see a stain, try to clean it as soon as you can. I like to use a little dish soap directly on the cloth, rub it in and then add some water. Usually this will either remove the stain altogether or at the very least help the stain come out in the wash.
hair and makeup
texture… and blush
With the return of blush, we still have subtle lips, accentuated eyelashes and eyebrows—but notice the curls! So much wonderful hair body and texture.
accessories
gladiator sandals
Another trend that is new for this season, but being brought back from the past is the gladiator sandal. A more modern spin is to wear them with socks (how about some extra frills on the socks too?) But another shoe that is making its way back are ballet flats… I have yet to see many people wearing them here, but I am sure they will pick up soon. Aren’t we all getting a little tired of sneakers?
feminine flair
I love how feminine pieces are coming back. From bows in your hair to frills on your socks, allow yourself to be ultra-feminine this summer! At the same time that feminine pieces are seeing a revival, be ready to notice some fun ironic twists. Ball caps add a casual flair and an unusual turn to a feminine outfit.
